Castang - Wine & Spirits suppliers

Established in 1979 Castang Wine Shippers is one of the largest privately owned and independent wine shippers in the South West. Castang is an independent family business established in 1979 originally by David and Janet Hearndon, and as the 'children' Jonathan and Philip grew up, they also joined the business, followed later by Jonathan's wife Mel.

They currently operate throughout south west England, together with key accounts in other areas of the country. During the past 29 years they have steadily enlarged their portfolio of wines and agencies by increasing their activities firstly throughout Europe and more recently in the new world wineries.

Their range now exceeds 400 wines. The business has a wide variety of skills and experience which allows them to offer a comprehensive service together with advice to its clients.

The Castang list of wines is one of the most comprehensive available on the Internet today. They also offer a regular delivery services to all parts of the UK, and charges for delivery are available on request. During the past 28 years, this family business has attempted to build an interesting list of quality wines, which not only represents value for money but also offers interesting and unusual products from wine regions around the world. Castang have wines to suit all tastes and pockets, selected from some of the best growers in all countries and believe that where honest and accurate comparisons can be made, their prices compare more than favourably with those found in supermarkets.

Castang provide a balanced portfolio containing a variety of styles from classic French, through the best of Europe to some of the most exciting wines from the New World. In general, they try to keep major brands from their list, as they believe that the demand for exclusive hand crafted wines is increasing at the expense of mass produced branded products, many of which lack character and regionality.

They have spent much time in sourcing quality "lower priced wines" and now have an extensive range of exclusive wines in this category for what is a most important sector of the market. A number of such wines are available from France, including the Inspiration range of varietals: Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and Merlot. From Bodegas Muerza in Navarra, the Pleno Viura and Tempranillo have proved very popular. New world wines in this category include Karoola Ridge Semillon/Chardonnay and Cabernet/Shiraz from Australia and CYT Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay from Chile.

The sales of Rose wines has seen enormous growth in recent years, and they now offer a large selection of such wines, including the outstanding Cabernet from Principe de Viana in Navarra, together with wines from Bergerac, Anjou, Sancerre and Tavel in France, and a pleasant light Merlot from Chile.

The Castang team have spent much time in the Loire valley recently and as a result have added stunning 2005 Anjou Rouge (red) to the list. This is from the same wonderful estate, Château de La Roulerie, as the barrel fermented Anjou Blanc and the outstanding Savennieres, which they listed last year for the first time. The demand for dry Chenin Blanc is increasing, and these wines are well suited to West Country seafood dishes. They have also listed a Coteaux du Layon from this estate.

Other new listings this year include Cotes du Rhone and Chateauneuf du Pape from the Berthet-Rayne family. Some fabulous Boutique wines from Tuscany and Veneto in Italy. Also they are now dealing with four new estates for our South African selection, which has seen several changes this year.
